Course:
We have planned a new 8.5 mile loop course on the San Jacinto River below the Lake Houston Dam for our 2010 race. Recreational class paddlers will enjoy a 5 mile loop course.
There can be large wind or boat waves in certain areas of the river. Open decked hulls are advised to use spray skirts.
Racers can take a course left or right of the island near the buoy turn.
All classes start in the water at 10am. Paddlers will head down river to Banana Bend Park and turn counter-clockwise at the 5 mph buoy then back to Good Times Marina for catfish. See course map images below.

* C1 and C2 is any non-plastic canoe/OC with single blade.
**The race director will judge if a certain hull can enter the recreational class. Any boats not meeting these specifications will still be allowed to race in one of the other classes (solo or tandem unlimited). General guidelines for the recreational class are: plastic sit-on-tops, plastic canoes, and sea kayaks greater than 22" width.

Required Gear: Coast Guard approved PFDs and cell phones are to be carried by all participants. Racers will be given the race director's phone number at check in. Racers are expected to notify the director if the course cannot be completed or in the event of any emergency. There will be a safety boat at the buoy turn and mid-course.
Participation fee: Entrance Fee: $5 (to cover racer insurance) Marina launch fee: $5 (each vehicle will need to pay a $5 parking fee. This is to be paid in the restaurant. Place the dated parking pass on the vehicle dash.)
Distance: 8.5 miles 5 miles for recreational class Boat numbers will be provided.
Directions: From Beltway 8 take Garrett Rd to the east. If coming from the north it will be a left turn. Continue on Garrett Rd. for 5.2 miles and turn left into Good Times Marina. A large white sign is posted at the entrance.
