It's that time of year again, folks! The Third Annual Cuero TurkeyFest Canoe Race is set for Saturday, October 13, 2012. Just like last year, we'll have 2 race distances:
1. 7 mile recreational race - All boats welcome - kid friendly course
-Male/Female solo
-Male/Female/Mixed tandem
-Unlimited
-Youth
2. 14 mile competitive race - TCKRA/ICF State River Championship course
-Male/Female K1
-Male/Female K1 Masters
-Male/Female solo unlimited
-Male/Female tandem unlimited
-Roy Tyrone competitive Aluminum Class
*only K1 entrants are eligible for TCKRA/ICF State Championship titles
We're working on sponsorships right now. We will attempt to pay prize money for the 14 mile competitive race similar to last year (top 10 boats, regardless of class). More on that as details develop in the coming weeks.
TurkeyFest will be going on Friday through Sunday. Charlie Robison is performing Friday night. Texas Tornadoes headline Saturday night (not sure how they pull that off with Doug Sahm and Freddie Fender being dead and all, but it should be interesting, nonetheless). Bring the kids and make a weekend out of it. Lodging in Cuero is in high demand (oil field) so book early.
Change from last year:
No online registration. This is an experiment. It seems like most people prefer to register on race day to avoid paypal and/or active.com charges, so we're going to be race day only registration. Preferably, I would like for anyone planning on doing the race to RSVP here (name and race division) or on the TCKRA facebook thread. It will help me in planning for the post-race feast. Alternatively, you can email your RSVP to me at michaelvandeveer at att dot net.
Race entry is $25.00/paddler. It includes swag (see below) and post-race food.
No t-shirts this year, but we will have suitable replacement swag. It's a surprise and to my knowledge no Texas canoe race has ever handed out what we have planned. #swagteaser
If the race day registration change becomes a fiasco, we'll reinstate online sign up for the 2014 race.
See you on October 13. PADDLE RUBY PADDLE!!!
Love,
Mildred
